We are very pleased to offer an exquisite eight-light chandelier attributed to the renowned Finnish designer Paavo Tynell in collaboration with Lightolier, circa the 1950s. The chandelier features eight elegantly curved brass arms that extend outward from a central brass saucer. At the end of each arm, a tulip brass shade is adorned with pointed metal details around its base, resembling delicate leaves. These decorative touches bring a natural, organic quality to the piece, a characteristic hallmark of Tynell’s work. The tulip shades are perforated around the rim, allowing light to spill through tiny holes, creating a beautiful starry effect. The shades, with their light bulbs facing upward, allow the light to diffuse warmly, creating a soft, inviting glow in the space. At the top of the chandelier, a crown of perforated brass mesh leaves shows Tynell’s signature style. This chandelier is a direct result of Tynell’s collaboration with Lightolier, a partnership that played a significant role in bringing his designs to the American market. The use of brass, nature-inspired details, and the upward-facing tulip shades are all distinctive features of Tynell’s lighting designs from this period. His work with Lightolier allowed his pieces to reach a broader audience, further cementing his reputation as one of the most innovative lighting designers of the mid-20th century. The perforated rims and thoughtful design of each element in this chandelier strongly align with Tynell’s signature style. In great vintage condition and ready to cast a glow for years to come. Please see all the attached pictures.
